Operational Analysis

We do an in-depth operational analysis of a law firm at RJH Consulting. Our analysis encompasses any and all issues that our client firm may be dealing with. We look at the following when working with our clients:

This list can be bigger depending upon what more our client wants.

Operational Analysis Methodology
At RJH Consulting, our methodology is comprehensive and yet flexible, depending on the circumstances. However, the typical process that we have developed begins with a thought-provoking confidential survey. The questionnaire covers all aspects of the client’s law firm operation. To ensure confidentiality, we ask each of the attorneys to complete and return to us in confidence.

We then review and analyze copies of all relevant law firm reports and documents, such as:

  • client’s profit and loss statements
  • attorney productivity
  • compensation histories
  • aged accounts receivable
  • copies of partnership/corporation documents, etc.

From there on, our process continues with a visit to the client’s offices to interview the members of the firm including partners and attorneys. We also interview any other relevant personnel, such as an office manager/administrator.

Following that visit, we provide the client with the following:

  • a written summary, or “word picture” of the firm
  • our impressions and observations
  • analysis of the financial data of the law firm
  • comparisons with other firms, etc.

Thus far, the process we have described has proven to be very effective to identify the issues and concerns and to gather the necessary information.

The Final Step
Lastly, the final step is an exit briefing. The exit briefing usually lasts a full day.

During the exit briefing, we present and discuss our written report. Our report contains specific recommendations on the issues identified by the review process described above.

The exit meeting is typically held about 6 to 8 weeks after our visit to the client’s offices, depending upon scheduling.

We don’t indulge in boilerplate in the preparation of our reports as they are all drafted from scratch. The reports are tailored to the unique culture and personality of each individual client.
